Energy Performance

In 1997 many countries around the world signed up to the Kyoto Protocol which agreed a set of measures to reduce Carbon Dioxide emissions. They recognised the growing problem of increasing levels of greenhouse gases, particularly CO2 and agreed to take action to mitigate the problem.

It is vital that we make our buildings more energy efficient in the UK, because buildings account for 50% of the energy we consume. A large proportion of current buildings will still be in use in 50 years time, so improving the performance of existing buildings is important.

The Government is leading the introduction of a number of energy and cost savings measures to make all buildings more efficient. The measures are being implemented across the entire EU and are reflect the European Directive for the Energy Performance of Buildings (EPBD).

Energy Performance Measures

Energy saving measures are being introduced in three key areas: Energy Performance Certificates (EPCs) and Display Energy Certificates, Boilers and Air Conditioning Systems.
